The 17 Fathom is one of the staples of the Port Dover diving
scene.
This small schooner has had virtually all of the superstructure
destroyed (reportedly by fire) but the hull is still very in tact.
Rather well filled with silt it is not possible to penetrate this
wreck, but there is still a fair bit to see. A great looking
windlass near the bow, hull details, nets, and a debris field
that reportedly still turns up new artifacts all make this a
worthwhile wreck.
Caution must be taken on this site as it is covered with that
fine Lake Erie silt that seems unlike any other substance in
the world for its ability to make awreck vanish in seconds
after a fin kick comes within a football field of a wreck.
