Diving the Unnamed Reef

By Ocean Concepts

Depth: 60-70 feet

Bottom Time: 25-35 Minutes

Visibility: 50-100

Sealife: Lobster, Tiger Cowries, Tritons Trumpets, Whitetip Reef Sharks, Blacktip Reef Sharks, Crown-of-thorns sea stars

Around the corner from Ka'ena Point, just past Army Beach, is a site a half to one mile offshore, that has yet to be given a name. Unnamed Reed is a series of ledges running perpendicular to the shoreline with channels of sand in between. A cluster of small caverns, in about 60 to 70 feet, are home to a variety of crustaceans and shells - including Triton's Trumpets. Beware, where Tritons can be found, rest assured there is a community of the poisonous crown-of-thorns sea stars.

Several sharks have been sighted resting in the caves, including Whitetips and Blacktips. This dive is for the experienced diver only - and, of course, is normally undiveable during the Winter months.
